The Birth of a Ball
Our story begins in a place filled with the aroma of leather and the sound of stitching machines – a baseball factory. Here, craftsmen take great care in creating baseballs, which start their life as a rubber or cork center. This center is then wrapped tightly in yarn – almost 150 meters (164 yards) of it!
Preparing for the Game
After the yarn, the ball gets dressed in a white leather coat, which is cut into two figure-eight shapes. These pieces are hand-stitched together with 108 double stitches, taking about 15 minutes for each ball to complete. It’s meticulous work that ensures each ball is ready for its big moment.
On the Field of Dreams
A baseball’s life is full of thrilling moments! It gets to fly at high speeds, sometimes over 145 kilometers per hour (90 miles per hour), when thrown by professional players. It soars through the air, spun by pitchers to curve or slide, aiming to outwit the batters. When hit by a bat, it might travel over 120 meters (393 feet) to land in the stands as a cherished souvenir.
A Star in the Making
Every baseball hopes to be part of an exciting play. It could be a home run, a double play, or even just the thwack of a good hit. And it’s not just the players who make the game exciting – the ball is the real star, bringing energy to every game!
